There's another 70th birthday even sooner [than our 70th birthday]. Our school opened on Tuesday, September 3, 1940 with 1,987 first, second and third year students, according to the 1941-42 student handbook.

(I think my copy of this 80-page manual came from the filing cabinet of Marie Albright, one of the original general science teachers. After she retired about 1964, the deal was that if I cleared it out, as a young teacher I could use the filing cabinet.)
